A half-acre Food Forest

Welcome to our half-acre food forest. We created it five years ago while working fulltime in the city and working on our farm on the weekends.

This is where we grow our seasonal produce – tomatoes, lady’s finger, brinjals, gourds, basil, radish, leafy greens and so much more. Though it’s meant to be full of useful produce that I can gather in a basket as and when I need it, I still want it to look beautiful.

All the things we put in here serves a purpose. It might look like my food forest is mostly a functional space to help us grow vegetables, fruits and herbs for the family, but it is so much more than that. Even the flowers that are planted between the vegetable crops help in attracting bees and butterflies for pollination plus they help deter pests too.

Come along to see what we are growing and harvesting this season. I am having a lovely morning with my radishes and tomatoes. How’s your saturday?

Happy weekend friends!

  1. I am disappointed with my water apple trees 15 years old. They p roduce abundant leaves every year and no flower or fruit.I gave all organic manure and enough water. They grow as beautiful tree so don’t want to cut them down.
Please suggest a solution for fruiting.

    1. I feel the problem could be in the type of tree sapling and its source. If that’s not the case, then I suggest, you spray your plant with fermented banana peel water. This is a miracle liquid that makes the plants flower abundantly. Here’s how you make it – Take some banana peels and put them in an airtight container. Add enough water to submerge the peels. Leave it in a dark place for 4-5 days, while releasing the gas build-up inside the container by opening the lid a little bit everyday and then close it again. This liquid will ferment for 4-5 days and will have a sour smell to it. Don’t worry, that’s how fermented stuff should smell like. Now transfer the liquid alone in a spray bottle and spray it all over the plant, drenching the leaves and branches thoroughly. Do this a few times and see. Hoping this helps. Fingers crossed. All the best! Do let me know how it goes…
